The Mammalian Fetus. Comparative Biology and Methodology

publishing house. Much of what this reviewer said about the Genetics volume* applies to the present volume as well. The individual chapters are up to date (e.g., tobramycin and amikacin are discussed) and are, on the whole, very well written except that they contain an unusual number of misspellings. However, the topic of resistance has not been thoroughly covered-certain molecular aspects are still missing. The chapter on epidemiological typing seems out of place, and the amount of duplication between the chapters is considerable. The highly specialized character of the information in some chapters, e.g., those on sensitivity to ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid or on the ultrastructural relationships, makes it unlikely that the book will appeal to a wide readership. Medical microbiologists would probably be interested in only four out of the eight chapters (unless they work in the field), and the same obtains for non-medical microbiologists. I should think that specialists in the area already have the information needed. Therefore, the value of this volume lies chiefly in the compilation of data for those who are not experts on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. One hopes that the two volumes will be reorganized and supplemented so that they will appeal to more scientists when funds for new books have become scarce. *Yale J Biol Med 49:308-309, 1976 ALEXANDER VON GRAEVENITZ Department of Laboratory Medicine Yale University School of Medicine

Ontogeny of erythropoiesis in the mammalian embryo.
Red cells are required not only for adult well-being but also for survival and growth of the mammalian embryo beyond early postimplantation stages of development. The embryo's first "primitive" erythroid cells, derived from a transient wave of committed progenitors, emerge from the yolk sac as immature precursors and differentiate as a semisynchronous cohort in the bloodstream. Surprisingly, th...
متن کاملCentral effect of mammalian oxyntomodulin on food intake in non-fasted and fasted chicks
Oxyntomodulin (OXM), a proglucagon-derived peptide, is a well known anorexigenic peptide found inthe gut and brain of mammals. The present study was carried out to investigate the central effect of OXM onfood intake in non-fasted and fasted Ross broiler chicks. At four weeks of age, a guide cannula wasstereotaxically implanted into the right lateral ventricle of each bird. Two experiments were ...
متن کاملA Comparative Investigation of the Bispecific Antibody: Expression in Expi293F Cells and E.Coli
Aims: Bispecific antibodies are capable of targeting two cell surface markers simultaneously. Blinatumomab an anti-CD3/CD19 Bispecific T cell engager antibody (BiTE) is approved for clinical application by FDA. This BiTE effectively targets malignant cells in ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) patients. For production of large quantities of such antibodies in industrial settings choice of host ...
متن کاملHistological Evaluation of the Fetus Lung in NMRI Mice after Exposure to Iron Oxide Nanoparticles: an in vitro Study
Background and Aim: Iron oxide nanoparticles are used in fields related to nanotechnology including ecology, magnetic storage, imaging and medicinal purposes. Iron nanoparticles produce reactive oxygen species (Ros). These materials are able to cross the placenta. The aim of this study was to investigate toxic effect of iron oxide nanoparticles on fetal lung in mice. <br ...
متن کاملComparison of the Lipophosphoglycan 3 Gene of the Lizard and Mammalian Leishmania: A Homology Modeling
Background: Lipophosphoglycan 3 (LPG3) is required for the LPG assembly, a well known virulent molecule. In this study, the LPG3 gene of the lizard and mammalian Leishmania species were cloned and sequenced. A three-dimensional structure (3D) for the target sequence was also predicted by comparative (homology) modeling. Materials and Methods: An optimization PCR amplification was performed o...
